Light of the World

The last ten minutes of the sermon was like a punch in the gut. Paraphrasing DJ, he mentions that:

  • abiding in the Father's love is simply responding in loving obedience
  • trust in the Gardener's ability to produce fruit
  • all change is experienced as loss, and the temptation is to go back to sin

I am reminded daily of my need for obedience and faith in the Father. The pandemic is exposing what was already true-- there is nothing that I can control. I don't expect my front tie to come undone or my houseboat to go hurtling towards the levee. Likewise, I didn't expect to be finishing up undergrad online in the isolation of my house or to be moving away from SLO. But sometimes the Lord has unexpected ways of challenging me and growing my trust in Him. Over and over he asks, "Will you trust me?"

Father God, when I try to forge my own way, thank you for reminding me of the value of simple obedience. Thank you for pruning me (like a bonsai, even when it is painful) and nurturing me to become more like your son. When I am confused and frustrated by change and plans cancelled, thank you for providing your word and your son as light to follow in the darkness.

Sending much love from SLO, Kenna
