What's up friends! How was your week?
I really liked this sermon and I want to focus on three quotes and how they display the freedom that we are given by Christ.
"Jesus leads us one step at a time, one day at a time. He does not layout before us this grand blueprint for our lives."
Life is crazy for everyone right now, nowhere is safe and even getting groceries is a full-on mission. This quote is special to me because it tells us not to worry about the future but live in the right now. This moment. Jesus is here in the moment walking with us. He has a plan for us and if we ask him to reveal the plan then we are saying that we are not trusting or willing to walk with him one step at a time through the mess. I take comfort in knowing that in every moment he is there walking in step with me.
"He does not give us a master plan for our lives, he gives us himself."
We don't need blueprints! I would love a blueprint but then I remind myself that I am the worst at following guidelines. Like when I make pancakes you bet I don't get measuring cups out. I just pour in mix and water and hope that it comes out well. If we had blueprints half of us would be so nervous about messing up the plan we were given and the other half of us wouldn't take the time to read it. So why should we get so caught up this idea of a plan. Jesus gives us himself and he is the one who is guiding us. As we walk with him we realize that as we spend more time with this guy we become more like him. We change and our eyes see a different reality, a way of life of humility, service, grace and love. If we plan on Jesus we allow ourselves to live a wildly fun and hard life. As we listen to the whispers and follow the nudges that we get we experience so much more than what we could've planned.
"Jesus had no program of his own, he planned no career for himself, he sought no identity or image for himself he simply responded to the loving obedience to the will of his father as it was presented to him."
We get so caught up in our image, are we like this person or like that person. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others yet that is not what Jesus did. If we want to truly live like Jesus and experience his freedom then we should not concern ourselves with our external appearance or the reputation that we may have been given. In the moments where we have the strength and confidence to be our truest self, we reflect the character of Jesus. Jesus did not make plans he just went around and helped people when he saw the opportunities. Has our world changed so much that we can't do little or big things for others? This message is huge to me because it's like, don't worry about where you're going or how you're going to get there, just plan on following Jesus.
