3 Week Catch Up!

Hi everyone! Apologies for my lack of posts on here! I thought I'd compile my thoughts into one post so here goes:

Week 3: The Son of Man
I like to think of the Gospel as 'the biggest plot twist ever,' which is exactly what DJ was preaching about when he said that the Son of Man comes into the world to serve, not to be served. While listening to the sermon I was thinking about Jesus' authority, divinity, and how true it is that He can use "the most pretentious self-designation," because, well, he's the Son of Man! But then DJ says that Jesus changes places with us and instead of being the Judge, becomes the judged and is convicted by humans. And this is very ironic, that the divine would be judged by sinners, but he does so willingly! Which just blows my mind and humbles me all at the same time.

Week 4: I am the Bread
It truly is a high compliment to humanity to say that we are earthly creatures who can only be satisfied by heavenly food. Reflecting on this, I think of all the ways I try to fill myself with everything that is not Jesus-- academic achievement, material goods, approval from friends; the list goes on. But all of these things could easily be stripped away! The heavenly bread that the Lord provides is the only sustenance necessary, which is a hard pill for a sinner like me to swallow. The comforting fact is that taking and eating this bread is a daily choice, and will always be provided.

Week 5: I am the Light
It seems so obvious, but I never have given a lot of thought to how "God is just like Jesus." I have always known that Jesus is the Christ incarnate, while failing to think about the implications this fact may have for my relationship with the living God. The way DJ framed this and said "Jesus is God with a face" makes God's 'vagueness' seem much more approachable. I tend to think of God as unapproachable because he is just SO big; and that Jesus is like His messenger. But this perspective is false, because they are one and the same. Jesus is how we learn about God-- and I think about how awesome it is that God became flesh so we as humans could understand God's character from the perspective of another person! Jesus was fully human, and set an example to sinners of what life is like when we follow the Light.

I hope you are all doing well!!
