I remember reading a book called "This Present Darkness" back in the 1980/90's. It was all about spiritual warfare and this incredible darkness. Darkness, darkness, darkness all about darkness. Jesus' claim to be the light of the world, is another example of Jesus being Jesus! Jesus makes His claim in the darkness of the 8th night. Light of the universe? Yes, he said that! Light of the Cosmos? Yes....He said that! Light of all creation? Yes...He said that! It is a audacious claim when you think about the properties, power, and transcendence of light!
"Those who stay close to me will never walk in darkness" - Jesus
When you begin to follow, listen, watch, and TRUST Jesus, that claim to be the light of the world doesn't seem so far fetched. IT doesn't seem so crazy.
In fact, you realize, after following, listening, watching, and trusting Jesus for some time, Jesus' claim to be the light of the world is Jesus being humble and modest!
Even in the middle of this present dark pandemic, Jesus calls out to us, "I am the light of the world, those who follow me will not walk in darkness!"
