The Bread of Life
Jesus: "Where will we buy bread so that these people can eat?" John 6:5
The question Jesus asks His disciples in John 6:5 was an example to me of Jesus inviting and encouraging. He is inviting and encouraging the disciples and the readers (us) to seek Himself. The Bread of Life wants His disciples to seek, find, and trust that He Himself provides everything they ever need/desire. He doesn't boast about His knowledge or solution (although He definitely could) of what He is going to do, rather He simply invites and encourages His disciples into relationship and involves them patiently into His plan.
I think we are called to do the same, to leave our boasting of our own knowledge at the feet of Jesus and accept His invitation to draw near, reminding ourselves that He Himself is everything we need/desire.
Just a bit more to add...
"Maker of bread...okay. Giver of bread...okay. THE BREAD?? A person is the bread itself?"
Without Jesus being our main sustenance we will die!
Sometimes thinking to myself: "Well, I seem to be surviving just fine..."
Responding to myself: "Really? Do you ever find yourself empty and hungering too much for the bread that perishes? Do you ever find yourself empty and hungering too much for _____? Without Jesus, The Bread of Life we cannot and are not surviving!"
Lord would you open my heart and mind to truly know that it is you I need more than anything! Thank you for your grace and sustaining us. Please push me Jesus to keep on drawing near.
The Light of the World
It was super neat to hear what The Light of the world brings light to.
When we stay close to Jesus The Light, we get to walk in the Light and freedom about God (who He is), about humanity (what it means to be human), about what blocks us from being like Jesus, about Who can heal us, and about God's will.
How refreshing and freeing to me that Jesus chooses to involve us through Himself in these things!
Jesus in the temptation to run to the familiar old way of doing when exposed to and by Your Light, would you push us and grow in us the courage to continue running to you.
