Jesus
is the Bread of Life, eat this bread and you'll live forever. In this, Jesus is
both telling us we are the earthly creatures who can only be satisfied by
heavenly food and inviting us to commune with him. The same way God provided
exactly enough manna from heaven daily to sustain the Israelites, Jesus offers
us himself to take and be filled daily. It's easy for me to think about how
foolish it was for the Israelites to try to gather more manna than they needed
for the day, but if I saw manna fall from the sky I'd probably take as much as
I could, thinking there's no way that it would happen again. But Jesus giving
us himself as the bread of life isn't a one-and-done thing. He says keep
coming, and you'll be satisfied. Keep relying and you'll be sustained. We don't
have to worry about running out of Jesus, because he'll always be more than
enough!!
This reminded me of a line from the SUP under the strength and firmness culture point. "He’s helping
you discover that your relationship with Him is not cream puff ideas on how to have a better day
but instead an intense love affair that demands your body, heart, mind, and strength." When we take and eat each day, it's not about a little mood boost, but about being filled with His love so we can in turn let that love be central to every part of our lives.
